Final Event of FLAIROP Project in Esslingen

(05.08.2023) On July 27, 2023, we held the final presentation for the FLAIROP project in Esslingen at the site of Festo SE. In the presence of the German funding agency, the German-Canadian project collaborators demonstrated the benefits of federated learning in robot bin picking cells.

During the FLAIROP project KIT, Festo SE, University of Waterloo, and DarwinAI collaboratively worked to enable collaborative machine learning (ML) while maintaining data privacy across all partners. Therefore, we set up two picking cells at KIT-IFL and two cells at Festo SE with distinct data sets. The resulting ML models were exchanged over the FL infrastructure developed by the cii research group to improve suction attempts for all clients.

We especially thank the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) for supporting this innovative and visionary project and all collaborators for the outstanding work we achieved in this project.
