Fujitsu NEXT „IT Innovation“ Award 2023 for an Outstanding Master's Thesis Awarded to KIT Master Graduate and cii Research Group Member Yannick Erb

(20.12.2023) KIT master’s graduate and current Ph.D. candidate, M. Sc. Yannick Erb, was awarded the Fujitsu NEXT “IT Innovation” Award 2023 for his master’s thesis titled “From Affordances to Business Value – How Can Organizations Use Fog Computing to Create Business Value?”.

The prize was endowed with 3,000 euros. The supervision for Erb's master's thesis was provided by Dr. Sebastian Lins and Prof. Dr. Ali Sunyaev from the critical information infrastructures (cii) research group, affiliated with the Institute for Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) at KIT. After the successful completion of his master’s studies, Yannick Erb joined cii in August 2023, pursuing his Ph.D.

In his master thesis, Yannick Erb delves deep into the ways organizations can leverage the innovative technology of fog computing to enhance and enable their value creation. While fog computing holds considerable advantages over cloud computing in specific contexts, fog computing has yet to see widespread adoption in productive use by organizations. Through his research, Yannick Erb aims to aid practitioners in deciding when to use fog computing within their value creation best and extends current research on fog computing. By synthesizing existing fog computing research, the thesis illustrates how the unique characteristics of fog computing can be harnessed to achieve specific value creation goals.

The award ceremony took place on December 05th, 2023.
