Large Language Models (LLM) in their use in an educational setting - ChatGPT in higher education.

  • Background

As the most advanced chatbot to date, ChatGPT is able to write text that is almost indistinguishable from human-generated text in a matter of seconds. The language model is also able to chat with users in an intuitive way.

Therefore, it has caused quite a sensation in the education sector, so that the discussion is currently focused on dystopian future scenarios, especially in regards regarding assessment, learning and teaching, or when it is about copyright issues.

Currently, there is a lack of research on opportunities and challenges of the use of ChatGPT in education settings. Thus, there is a need to review and improve understanding of its impact on (higher) education.

    Objective

Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

Identifying and overviewing risks and opportunities in the use of ChatGPT in the (higher) education context through a (1) literature review or (2) expert interviews.
